Defining Data Science:

Data Science encompasses the statistical and computational techniques, technologies, and methodologies developed to enable the most recent paradigm of discovery, i.e., data-driven discovery (aka Big Data), complementing the discovery paradigms of theory, experimentation, and simulation.

Data science is currently deployed as one of the main approaches for making a discovery in a wide set of applications in almost all academic disciplines and industry sectors, including health informatics, precision and personalized medicine, engineering, business analytics, geosciences, social studies, intelligent transportation, and cybersecurity, to name a few. In turn, the demand for data science expertise has created a vast workforce shortage, reflecting the need for hundreds of thousands of data scientists in the U.S. alone.

We are building an interdisciplinary data science community in Denver to meet this shift in our world. Join us!

Announcing the 2023 Data Science Symposium: October 6th

Please join us on Friday, October 6th for a full day of talks, panels and discussions about data science across all disciplines! In addition to keynote addresses, we will have specific sessions highlighting data science in research, education and industry on our campus and in the nearby community.
